Hey all i just wanted to let everyone know. I just heard of a new accessible cell phone that singular offers. I'm not sure much about it, but from what i understand it you can use any cell phone that is compatable with the new program they are offering. I think it is kind of like jaws for the cell phone. they just download the program to your cell. From what I understand is this is the only company offering it as of now. But, i just got a new cell from us cellular, motorolla v 810, and it has wwhere it talks when you push the buttons. It says what button you had pushed. I'm not sure if there is a way to have it read the menus, but i'm going to find out! It also has a dialing thing, where you can say the number you want to dial and it dials it. you can also set up quick keys to the different menus, like changing the ring town, then when you are in th e menu you just hit the down arrows and you can change your different rings. I know i wanted a more accessible phone so i just thaught i'd let you know what i found out! lol! smile, angel

can you give us more on this phone? It's cost, the name of the program, what it does, ETC?
My boyfriend has the talks program and i think that although the program is rather pricy ($300) its a great program, and works very very well. It was his graduation present, I think it was a very good one and a useful one...
I would like to know about this from Singular though.
Thanks...
Dixie

I want Talx, but it's too expensive, and I don't use my cell enough to warrant getting it. Still, it soundss awesome, and I'd love to have it. This new program sounds fascinating.

yeah, i'd love to have an accessible cell phone, too. I wish it wasn't so expensive!

Yes, most definitely...I just got a Track Phone, and it's accessibility is crap, but I'm going to give that one to my husband; who is sighted and get me Singular this week. If you don't have anymore info on it; maybe I can find something out...We've got a Singular store around here, and that's where I'm going so that I can get the best phone possible.

Lol my phone is so inaccessible. It's sad. Heheh. Caitlin

Know that feeling...It makes 2 different beep sounds and that is it. One kind for each button push, and another for locking and unlocking the keypad. It doesn't talk at all, and it has no voice recognition for dialing numbers or anything.

Singular isn't the only company with the talking cell phones. Verisgn I believe is the only other company with the talking software. In 2 months my sister and I's contracts with T-Mobile will be up.....thank god cause I can't stand my cell anymore as I can't see the screen. I'd like to get a Nokia phone with the walkie talkie. My ex had one and those would be great especially with the coast to coast feature. But he told me there's downside to those as they put minutes on the walkies too. Sucks. Everything has to cost something. Something like a program for the blind shouldn't be put with a price.

Singular is offering the Talks program for Nokia 6620* for $199 with a rebate of $100 or more depending on what plan you go with. We just got this info direct from singular.com

you should! talks is awsome!

You might be able too. Don't know, you'd have to ask them...However, the rebate has some requirements. First, you have to renew your contract for either a year or 2 depending on which rebate you want, and second you've got to fill out their app that says you need it...

hey joe, if the motorolla v810 is abailable to you. It has some pretty cool features. The number buttons talk when you push them. you can also set up quick keys to the different menus, then you would just have to memorize what to push after that. I also heard it has talking caller id. i haven't had any body check it out for me just yet. alright hope that helps. smile, angelsome

They say the vorizon thing isn't very good. Rather pricey too. So is talks but I know from experience it works great.

I don't know if that one is a flip phone. I think the site had a pic, but we all know how that is. I could ask my husband later to take a look. He is totally sighted and would be able to describe any pics to me. I too want a flip phone. On my current one I've always got to lock the keys, and that is a pain in the back side...

I wanna get Talx but my providers seem kinda clueless about it thus far, and I dunno who to ask lol. Any advice? Caitlin

Post 23 by Witchcraft (Account disabled) on Monday, 24-Jan-2005 4:29:59

Um, switch to Singular?

Post 24 by shea (number one pulse checking chicky) on Monday, 24-Jan-2005 12:18:34

kate kate, didn't you say singular baught out your company? If so talk to singular and ask them what you can do. And i did also call vorizon, and, they said it is the talk program that they all use. I called my provider uscellular and they said they would propose the idea since there competetors have it. Shouldn't i get it for free for doing all this work. lol! hehehehehehehe! yeah, right! smile- angel

Post 25 by Caitlin (I've now got the silver prolific poster award! wahoo!) on Monday, 24-Jan-2005 12:36:14

Yup Singular and AT&T merged. So nwo ATT users are actually on the Singular network. So I could talk to singular I guess lol. So I'll do that. Lol! Thanks all!

Post 26 by shea (number one pulse checking chicky) on Monday, 24-Jan-2005 19:09:32

for those of us that have a provider that doesn't offer the talks program just yet. We should all give them mass emails and phone calls and maybe they will get on the ball! i have already emailed us cellular. does anyone else have this provider? smile, angel
